Mr Fedynich, the Chairman of the REP Trade Union, has commented on the situation with searches of union activists on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.
On March 13, Andrei Strizhak, the deputy head of the REP's Gomel branch, and his wife Evgenia, the editor of the praca-by.info, were detained on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border at the Kamenny Log checkpoint, for in-depth personal inspection without any explanations.
A week ago, on March 7, during passport and customs control at the Gudogai railway station, Zinaida Mikhnyuk, the REP deputy chair, and Anna Dus, a coordinator of the REP's youth network, were taken off the train and exposed to personal search.
"Obviously, special services have received an order to personally search all the REP activists who cross the border. They want to show that everything is under their control and to exert additional pressure on us," Gennady Fedynich gave his comment.
Under the "trade union case", over 500 people have been questioned. REP refused to provide investigators with the list of its members. Perhaps, they found these data in the equipment confiscated from the office. The investigation was extended until May 1.
On March 15, the REP's office in Minsk hosted a press conference on the recent events involving union members.
