BelAZ: ROUGHEST VIOLATIONS OF WORKER'S RIGHTS!
LET US DEFEND THE WORKER!
STATEMENT
of the Board of the Belarusian Radio and Electronic Industry Workers' Union
Yuri Loban, a foreman of porters at the Republic's Unitary Production Enterprise (RUPE) "Belarusian Automobile Factory" (BelAZ), has addressed the Board of the Belarusian Radio and Electronic Industry Workers' Union because the administration of the enterprise had refused to extend his employment agreement (contract), while the local trade union committee of the Belarusian Union of the Automobile and Agrarian Machine Builders (ASM) had refused to defend him.
Yuri Loban is a member of the ASM; however, his local trade union committee refused to defend the worker. According to our information, Yuri Loban is "guilty" of exhibiting interest to the information materials on defence of workers' rights disseminated by the Independent Trade Union of the Belarusian Radio and Electronic Industry Workers' (REP/AM) and the International Federation of Metalworkers, which unites over twenty-five million workers all over the world.
The Board of the REP/AM believes that the groundless refusal of the administration of the RUPE BelAZ to extend Yuri Loban's employment contract is a roughest violation of human rights, Conventions of the International Labour Organization, the Constitution and the Labour Code of the Republic of Belarus, and declares its solidarity with Yuri Loban. We call on the international trade union movement to render solidarity support to Yuri Loban in his fight for the right to work and demand from the administration of the RUPE BelAZ to conclude a permanent employment contract with Yuri Loban, the foreman of porters.
