Administration of Bobruisk Factory of Tractor Parts and Units sacks trade-union activist
28.05.2010
The system of fixed-term contracts has once again helped the employer to get rid of an active worker. Leonid Gaishun, a highly skilled worker of the Bobruisk Factory of Tractor Parts and Units and a member of the Free Trade Union Belarusian (known as SPB), was dismissed after expiry of his fixed-term labour contract. By doing so, the factory administration has broken the collective agreement in force at the enterprise. The trade union leaders are sure that the reason of dismissal was the worker's membership in the SPB and his active stand in defending the labour rights of his colleagues.
As reported by the website www.bkdp.org, recently Leonid Gaishun managed to win a suit against his employer about illegal disciplinary punishment and deprivation of a bonus.
The trade union gave no consent to dismissal of its activist. The collective agreement, in force at the above Factory, has a provision that the administration has no the right to dismiss a worker of high qualification. Leonid Gaishun has the 6th qualification category and long service record at the Factory – 36 years. Nevertheless, the employer has resorted to the violation and refused to extend he contract with the highly skilled worker.
The SPB plans to sue the employer and demand to restore the union activist at work.
