Mikashevichi Town Executive Committee bans BNP to hold May Day rally
28.04.2012
The bosses of the Mikashevichi Town Executive Committee, represented by Deputy Chair Bakunovich, L. A., have found grounds to reject the application of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union (BNP) on holding a rally scheduled for May 1 in support of the primary organization of the BNP at the Republic's Unitary Enterprise (RUPE) "Granit". As reported by the press service of the BNP, the official response of the local authorities refers to the impossibility to hold the requested rally at the stadium of the RUPE "Granit", because on that very day and at that very time the stadium will host the city sports competitions among enterprises, institutions and organizations in the city dated to the Labour Day. The BNP disagrees with the response of the Town Executive Committee and believes that the refusal is absolutely far-fetched. According to Nikolai Zimin, Chairman of the BNP, the answer is absolutely unreasonable and violates the rights and freedoms of trade union members: "We don't understand the logic of the answer; why hadn't they warned us? Who passed the decision: was it done collectively or personally? There are too many questions that we'll put to the bureaucracy; and we'll certainly appeal against the refusal. Apart from the rally in Mikashevichi, a May Say Festivity is scheduled for May 1 by the Free Trade Union of Miners (SPG) of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Belaruskali", which is a primary structure of the BNP. The event will be held in Soligorsk, at the recreation base "Tikhaya Zavods" (Quiet Backwaters), and start at 10 in the morning.
