REWU reminded the EU about the ongoing violations of trade union rights in Belarus

The Belarusian Radio and Electronic Workers’ Union (REWU) believes that attempts being made by the European Union, aimed at establishing relations with the Belarusian authorities are premature because as before trade union and workers’ rights are violated in the country. This statement was made by the REWU Council. The document was sent to the International Metalworkers Federation (IMF) requesting to make position of independent trade union available to governments of those European countries, where IMF membership organizations are functioning.more >>

One of the signatories to complaint on violation of trade unions rights - the Belarusian Radio and Electronic Workers’ Union (REWU) did not become a member of the Council, which is called to assist in eliminating these violations. Independent Trade Unions managed to achieve a 10-fold reduction of office rental fees

The Belarusian authorities made a step forward to independent trade unions and decided to restore the beneficial coefficient of office rental fees, applied for all organization of workers irrespective of their membership. During six months the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BCDTU) has been struggling against discriminatory conditions, when in April 2008 the Government of Belarus have cancelled application of beneficial coefficient and office rental fees for trade unions immediately jumped up 10 times.more >>
